Some Illustrations from the pages of 'Beautiful Stories from the Bhagavatam'.

The writings of the Bhagavatam come from "The Vedas", the ancient Sanskrit writings of the Hindus. This particular story told of a skilled archer named Arjuna and a Princess. It is a complex tale of love, kidnap and war, relating how the god Krsna  (the all perfect one) magically intervened to help the hero defeat his enemies in a huge battle.

The original illustrations were made using mostly oils and some acrylics on boards. The pages were laid out and designed in pencil before the colour illustrations were begun. Not being Hindu myself, it entailed a fair amount of research into Indian costumes, settings and culture etc; interesting to do, as well as being an education!
